In order to study the effect of the surface treatment of paving stones with the water-repellent agent
on the humidity of the tile, the moisture content of the three tile samples was measured:
untreated,
treated with «Неогард» for paving stones (on water basis),
treated with «Неогард» for concrete – extra strong coating (on alcohol basis).
A humidity measuring device for wood and concrete “CONDTROL HYDRO-Tec” was used
to determine the humidity of the tiles. After water-repellent treatment the samples of the tiles
were maintained in natural conditions on the street (Leningrad region) during one year.
The humidity was measured on August 29, 2018.
The device readings were taken at five points for each sample of the tile, and then averaged.
The measurement results are shown in Table 1.
Table 1. The measurement results of the humidity of the tiles 2018.08.29
№ | Sample | Humidity, % |
1 | Untreated | 3,1 |
2 | Treated with «Неогард» for paving stones (on water basis) | 2,7 |
3 | Treated with «Неогард» for concrete – extra strong coating (on alcohol basis) | 1,4 |
The results of humidity measurements of paving tiles show that treatment of the tile surface
with an alcohol-based water-repellent agent reduces the humidity by a factor of 2, treatment
of the tile surface with a water-based water repellent agent slightly reduces the moisture of the tile.
The obtained results confirm the effectiveness of the use of «Неогард» water repellents
for the treatment of paving stones in order to protect the paving from wetting and destruction,
and to increase the life of the paving.
